Keep Your Data Safe with These Cloud Storage Tips

We don’t go a day without thanking the tech gods for the magic of cloud file storage. With more people working from home and even more people traveling all over the world for work, the cloud has become an easy way to store information online. With cloud storage, you can access your data from anywhere and anytime, making work simpler and much less stressful. Here are a few cloud storage tips to help keep your data as safe as possible.

Don’t Store Sensitive Information on The Cloud

The rule of thumb when it comes to cloud storage is only to upload frequently used files. If you must store sensitive documents such as passwords, credit card numbers, or your home address, ensure these files are encrypted.

Use Strong Passwords when You Encrypt Your Data

Encryption changes information into a secret code that authorized parties can only access. Though the cloud automatically encrypts data, you can add an added layer of protection by encrypting them with software like Microsoft BitLocker. Remember to use strong passwords as a decryption key. A strong password has a combination of different characters and is more than 15 characters long.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Some cloud service providers offer two-factor authentication. This blocks out malicious attempts to access your data and beefs up your security. When you enable two-factor authentication, you generally receive a code via SMS each time you log in from a new browser or device. This allows the service to verify your identity.

Please Read the Terms of Service Carefully

This will allow you to find out where the cloud service provider is storing data and what safety measures they have in case of a breach or security compromise.

Install a Good Antivirus Solution

Even if your cloud service provider is trustworthy and reputed, good antivirus software on your computer system will help protect your data further. Antivirus software keeps your operating system and computer software up to date and regularly scans and neutralizes threats like worms and trojan horses. Besides, you should avoid browsing torrent websites and keep yourself as safe as possible from cyber attacks carried out via phishing emails and spam.
